A monetary settlement from the Authority of $2 million per year for thirty five years to the Tribe,

A sale of 9 megawatts of power to the Tribe at the preference power customer rate for twenty-five years.

In exchange for all this, the Mohawks would unconditionally support the new license for the Project, dropping any claims to have control or jurisdiction over Project lands, waters, or power production.

The DEIS is acutely aware that the MOU is not a done deal, and makes reference to National Environmental Policy Act requirements that consider “reasonably foreseeable future actions” as part of the deliberations over alternatives to the license conditions.

Ultimately, the stage set at St. Lawrence and the current work the Authority is performing at Niagara is a real indication of the immense nature of hydropower relicensing. If the Tuscarora Nation is to anticipate the Project’s presence in our territory for

another thirty to fifty years, we must be able to utilize those willing to work with a good mind towards the protection and restoration of the Nation’s resources. Be on the look out for future environmental studies and feel free to stop and ask questions.
