HETF Scientific Co-Chair, F. Henry Lickers,

honored for his service to the environment

 

 

F. Henry Lickers, Scientific Co-Chair for the Haudenosaunee Environmental Task Force (HETF), was honored for his 30 years of service to the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne (MCA) Environment Program on May 24, 2006.  Since 1976, Henry has been an advocate for raising awareness of the adverse affects to human health and health of the natural world from environmental contamination at Akwesasne.  He has been involved with remediation and restoration projects in and around Akwesasne, which include fluoride contamination on Cornwall Island , ON from nearby ALCOA East (formally known as Reynolds Metals) and PCB contamination along Raquette Point from nearby General Motors in Massena , NY .  Henry has also been involved with developing and promoting internationally a concept of naturalized knowledge systems that acknowledges the complex inter-relationships of all parts of Creation.

In addition to his service with MCA, Henry also received the Jean Woodsworth Award on April 24, 2006 .  This award is given annually by the Canadian Pensioner Concerned Inc. Ontario Division, to an environmental professional who dedicates his/her time to the community and the environment working for a caring compassionate society.  On May 6, 2006, Henry also received the Ross Silverside Forestry Award.  This award is presented by the Eastern Ontario Model Forest in recognition of outstanding contribution to the Vision of Sustainable Forestry in Eastern Ontario.
